Show 40 post s from this thread on one page. I have a KDS P monitor which does not work. I opened it up and found two burned areas on the power supply board see enclosed pic. In the areas that are burned i see this chip. But i cant seem to find a datasheet for this chip. I have included a pic of the chip. How did you know the part number is AO? I thought the 2nd number was the part number. Can you tell from the data sheet if D2 and D1 are shorted?
When i take a meter and measure the resistance from D1 to D2 i get a short I checked between gate and drain, source and drain So i guess its ok. I also measured the diode as shown in the data sheet. So i guess the chips are ok.
SO this leads me to ask the question Could it be the transformer? Measuring the primary side of the transformer.
There appear to be 6 pins on what i would call the primary side. ALL 6 pins are shorted You really think the burnt spots are just due to bad solder joints? Have you seen this before? I found this article on how to test transformers see link below. Remove one of the primary winding pin and connect a 60 watt light dxtasheet.

One end to the circuit while the other to the transformer pin. If the bulb light and didn’t goes off suspect a shorted winding and if the light goes off, the winding is ok. Right now, when i power it up So i will have to look a little deeper. I did reflow the transformer connections. Should ALL of the inputs on the primary side be shorted? ALL of the inputs on the primary side be shorted? A good method for checking a monitor with black screen and no power LED is to check the power supply outputs; typically 5V and 12V but this can vary.
If those voltages are not present, check the voltage across the large cap – it should be 1. If it is missing, check the fuse, etc.
If you have 5V and 12V, check the logic board. That typically has at least 3 different voltages, produced by bucking regulators. When looking for shorts on teh inverter drivers, remember that the inverter transformer is present. It is usually capacitively coupled.
I will get back to you with the results. Using what you guys said i started probing around. I started with the voltage across the big filter cap I found one cap “near” the big filter cap which was “bad”. I replaced this cap. I looked at a few other caps which were not replaced. They were the SAMXON brand which i remember reading on here that these were “bad” so i replaced the other caps as well. Good thing i did since after i removed the caps i measured them using my cap meter on my fluke I replaced all the caps on the board with new ones Thanks guys and thanks BAd-caps forum.
I know this is an old thread but I figured since there is good advice here on the P I should see if my problem will add to it. I have a P that powers up fine.
AO4606 MOSFET. Datasheet pdf. Equivalent
However with the video signal from my notebook PC the screen is solid bright white a4606 as long as I care to look at it. None of the buttons on the bottom work except the power on and off. The rest of the buttons produce no set up or adjustment windows and I can see no video from my PC at all.
I am thinking the power supply card is fine but the video processor board is acting up. I see no obvious issues visually. Does anyone know of any issues with these. I have fixed a lot of monitors by replacing the caps on the PS card but this will be my first with dwtasheet card issues.
I looked into the fuse and connector advise and could not find any issues. I am not an electronics wiz, for satasheet issue I am more of a one trick poney. I have fixed about a doz monitors now with only the knowledge of replacing the PS caps and have had good luck with this as I have always found the bulged caps every time I opened one up. Anyway this one has the good brand of Samxon for all but the big guy and that is a KM M but they rarly go bad from what I know.
I guess I will replace datasheef four uf x 25v, two uf x 25v and the one uf x 25v and see where datasheeg takes me. If that does not work I will ask if anyone wants a monitor for parts or repair as I will be outa my leage. Thanks for the help, I did add a few pics of the board in case you can see something I do not. Sorry for the long lead, I am have some time now to get back to datashet.
Also sorry for not mentioning that I did look at the panal when you brought it up, I should have said so but I forgot since I did not see dataseet about it.

All it is is four buttons and an LED. I did attach photos of the front and back of it. Since I am a one trick pony on these I orderd a set of caps and replaced them hoping for the best. It did not work out, still have the same issue.
The monitor is full bright all day long. It will since the presence of a video signal when I switch the note book PC I use for testing from onboard LCD to external and back but that is all it does other than make a nice large square desk light. The only button that works is the power and all the others do not give me any menu nothing. I was looking at the signal board wich I also included a photo of and doing some searches on it but I could not find any silver bullet type fix for it.
