I used this book to help me devise some interactive exercises in emotional intelligence for community college students in an Interpersonal Communication class. laantieri
The exercises are intended for children up to 12, but they could be adapted. I especially liked liinda included CD with Dr. Goleman’s voice leading a relaxation exercise and lihda recommendation for the biodots, which measure stress by color, and are available from stressstop.
My students loved the biodots. I have 3 kids with ADD who truly benefited from the cd – being able to slow their minds and relax before they go to bed is incredibly important.
Being self-aware is part of feeling empowered and in control; something all kids need to have a clear grasp of, and a true understanding of. This book has helped me understand how I can help my children help themselves.
The whole point of this book is the CD, which you obviously don’t get with the Kindle edition. I was hoping there would be a link or something else to make up for the lack of cd, linnda no. This book in Kindle format is useless.
Unfortunately I missed the other review that said this, hopefully having a duplicate will save someone else’s money. It not only gives parents and grandparents!! In a day when videos and computers all but raise kids, deeply human understanding will help keep kids balanced and they look forward to doing these things with people who care about them.

And then a CD with meditations, but no ideas for parenting or coaching the child. Just the relaxation CD. I wouldn’t have spent the money if I knew that’s all it is. This book is disapointing so far, but it may be only becasue I was expecting something else.
I just finished reading Gott’s book on emotinal intelligence, which was a great starting point for me to learn about the topic, and had some fantastic practical guidance. I thought this would give me more small ways I could incorporate emotional intelligence into our lives.
Instead, the book is a guide for those who wish to have a guided quiet time with their youngsters on a regular basis. The idea of the quiet time is to learn to focus on our thoughts, our bodies, etc, and to learn to appreciate silence. Not a bad idea, just not what I was hoping for.
